Salt rapidly accelerates corrosion, causing chassis and suspension components to corrode. Elixir Salt Remover neutralizes road salt, helping minimize corrosion and increasing the life span of your vehicle.
Elixir Salt Remover is a foaming, low-pH pre-wash, specifically formulated to remove granular road salt, grit and inorganic road film. The foaming nature of the product allows a longer work time, breaking down salt and other contaminants over time or allowing you to agitate the surface (where needed) and further remove embedded contaminants and underbody road film.
Our Salt Remover is specifically formulated to remove bonded crystallized salt particles from the surface which otherwise would not be removed by the normal wash process or by using generic cleaning products. Road salt reacts with organic molecules such as fuels, oil, and other inorganic molecules from the road, forming a coating on the vehicle’s surface, which is why a focused salt remover is essential for this application.
While salt can be dissolved in water, bonded grains of salt are not easily removed by pressure washing or hand washing alone, even long-duration immersion in water will only remove a small percentage of the bonded salt particles.
Where Elixir fits into the wash process:
Elixir should be incorporated into your wash process as a two-step pre-wash stage. Applying Elixir Salt Remover first to remove road salt, inorganic road film and doing the heavy lifting. After pressure washing or rinsing Elixir, use our Ultimus Snow Foam or Ultimus+ Snow Foam to neutralize any remaining chemicals left behind from Step 1, creating a near-neutral water run-off and removing general dirt and grime deposits.
It is important to make sure you also clean the undercarriage and chassis components as thoroughly as possible, salt build-up is typically more concentrated here and can hide very easily between panel gaps or chassis components, accelerating rust and corrosion.
Rubberized underseal on classic cars becomes brittle over time, cracking and exposing the non-protected metal finish, this is where salt and water cause a problem, creeping into the cracks and accelerating rust. Older cars are particularly susceptible to this as they are not E-coated from the factory, this process was only introduced widely in the 1990’s in large-scale manufacture.
Directions:
Elixir Salt Remover Concentrate can be applied in multiple ways, diluted in a spray bottle, or applied via a snow foam lance or hose adapter.
Pre-soak before snow foaming or washing.
On first use, we suggest a stronger dilution to remove any long-term salt build-up.
Suggested Dilution Levels:
